What a pleasure it was to hear the band's performance tonight! It's so nice to listen to a big band that doesn't think that all the horns need to be amplified through six-foot speaker cabinets, like at the Greeley Jazz Festival. Speaking of which, Swing Inc should go to Greeley; their presentation quality equals that of the many well-prepared college bands comprised of music majors. I realize that Swing Inc is primarily a rehearsal band, but a couple of others in the audience expressed that it's a shame that such talent isn't presented more often, and to a larger audience. I look forward to attending the Greeley festival every year to hear big bands, and have been able the last four years. But I found tonight, that the same great musical experience is also now available the last Tuesday of every month! All four sections of the band sounded great; tight and well-balanced. The last chart (Goin' Home?) is such a moving experience, that it surely counts as making up for missing church. |
